At River Valley Veterinary Hospital, being a New Kensington veterinarian, we embrace the connection between a pet and an owner. Pets do not simply take up space in our homes, they enrich our lives. They are family and in turn, deserve the absolute best care we can provide.

Our Beginnings…
River Valley was founded in 2000 by Dr. Linkenheimer, a New Kensington veterinarian, and his wife, Kim. River Valley Veterinary Hospital started its journey in a 500 square foot building, and then relocated in 2014, two miles down the road to a 10,000 square foot facility. We are one of the few veterinary hospitals left that is family owned and operated. River Valley Veterinary Hospital proudly serves any canine or feline friend who needs our help. Located in the quaint town of Springdale, we are just minutes away from the Route 28 expressway and the Pennsylvania turnpike.
Our surrounding areas include Cheswick, Oakmont, Fox Chapel, Natrona Heights, West Deer, East Deer and Frazer, PA. We’d be grateful to have the opportunity to serve you and your pet! Patient Care
We recommend annual exams as a minimum to maintain the Doctor/Patient relationship necessary to make the proper recommendations for the well being of your pet.
Medical
We can examine your pet and discuss any medical issues that may be causing your pet to be uncomfortable. It is important for your pet to be seen so our Doctor can recommend the best course of treatment to have your pet on the road to recovery.
Vaccinations
Proper vaccination is vital in protecting our pets from many types of diseases . It’s important to consult with us about the unique risks your pet is exposed to based on his environment. We will be happy to discuss the benefits of protecting your pet.
Surgical
From spay and neuter, dental care, and beyond, our surgical team is dedicated to providing the best outcome for your pet’s surgical experience.
Pharmacy
We offer a fully stocked, competitive in-house pharmacy to expedite your medication needs.
Urgent Care
We understand emergencies do happen. We will do our best to accommodate those “unexpected” situations. We will recommend the best options based on your pet’s specific urgent needs.
We help by preventing pet health issues and being there for you when your pet needs medical attention.

Did You Know
New Kensington, known locally as New Ken, is a city in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is situated along the Allegheny River, 18 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. The population was 12,170 at the 2010 census. Like much of Westmoreland County and surrounding areas, the region was a hunting ground for Native Americans of the Six Nations.
