What is this page all about?

These are videos published on the River Valley Veterinary Hospital website and the River Valley Veterinary Hospital YouTube channel to share helpful information for pet owners on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle for their pet. For each video we pick a topic and a veterinary technician or assistant answers questions dealing with that topic.

Why did you start publishing these videos?

We are passionate about helping pets have their best life. We understand that people consider their pets as family members. With that in mind, we wanted to provide valuable and relevant information for dog and cat owners about common ailments, preventive medicine, and answer common questions people have about veterinary care.

Who are these videos for?

These videos are for anyone who wants to learn more about veterinary care and pet health. This could be potential future team members, current clients, or people who are curious about what we’re up to. We believe these videos are useful for any pet owner, whether a client or not.

Why would you give away your secrets?

We don’t feel like we are giving away any trade secrets that would harm our veterinary practice. On the contrary, we want to help as many people and pets as we can. We want to be a source of great, free information for pet owners or soon to be pet owners.

It is our duty and privilege to share information that will help improve and/or prolong the life of pets. The better job we do sharing and educating people, the better lives pets will have no matter what state or country they live.

Can I watch these videos and treat my own pet?

These videos are not a medical degree. It takes many years to learn veterinary medicine and many more years working with animals on a daily basis to properly diagnose illnesses in dogs and cats. We strongly recommend that you visit your veterinarian regularly to prevent illness like heartworm, lyme disease and to check the overall health of your fur babies.

These videos are for information purposes only. We hope you learn how important it is to keep your animal vaccinated and protected from preventable disease.

If I’m a client, why should I still watch these videos?

Even though our vets are very thorough in our visits, they can’t possibly answer every question in a short visit. These videos are a great source of information for pet owners to understand more fully why certain treatments are so important. It also gives you the opportunity to get to know our staff. It is very likely you will meet them when you come in with your pet.

We often have tips on things like grooming and nail clipping that you can do yourself. You can also schedule an appointment with us to help if you’re not comfortable doing these things yourself. Either way, our goal is to help.

What’s a time efficient way to consume the content?

Time is always short. We all have busy lives and no matter who we are, we all only have 168 hours in the week. The length of our videos are generally around 10 to 20 minutes and all the questions in each video are grouped around a single topic.

This will allow the average pet owner to learn a meaningful amount on a particular topic during the natural breaks during the day. (I.e. waiting in line, eating lunch, on hold, etc.)

Additionally, most of the content on the videos is useful in audio only format. If you want to pull up the video while and listen without watching, you can gain just as much from the audio content. We have a playlist on the YouTube channel if you want to loop the videos instead of having to pull up a new video each time one ends.

Who are the people in the videos and why are they so awkward?

The people in the videos are River Valley Veterinary Hospital employees. Asking our staff to be on video is much like asking someone to go skydiving. It is an unnatural feeling to be on video. A lot of our staff tend to be on the introverted side. We would rather involve people on the videos who have valuable knowledge and expertise in veterinary medicine rather than people with just style. Also, this lets people get to know the real people behind the scenes at our clinic, who will be there to help you should you reach out to become one of our clients.

Further, given the abundance of topics that pet owners have questions about, our focus will be on providing quality information on useful topics rather than spending an enormous amount of resources on editing. We are ok if we don’t win an Oscar, but we are not ok with your pet getting ill.

What if I have a topic I would like discussed on your videos?

We would be happy to take requests for a future video on the show. Should you have a question you’d like answered or a topic that you would like us to discuss, leave a comment on one of the shows on the YouTube channel.

You can also send us an email or fill out the form on our website.

Are you looking for guests on your videos?

At this time we are using our internal staff to answer the questions on each topic. We fit in the videos based on time available thus scheduling these times is difficult to do. This means that having guests on our videos would be very impractical.

That does not mean that we would never entertain the idea of having a guest doctor or veterinary technician help us in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to check out our videos. If you enjoy them, please share them with friends and family or anyone who is a pet lover. Our YouTube channel can be found here. Please subscribe to our channel so that you never miss a new episode.

Our mission is to provide exceptional medicine for healthy pet lifestyles.
